Our Work

The Community Impacts on Physical Activity Research Team is part of the Center for Healthy Lifestyles & Nutrition and Children's Mercy Kansas City. Our work studies how the community, including neighborhoods, schools, and a variety of other settings impact physical activity in youth and adults.

Our work is informed by evidence showing that establishing healthy habits during childhood and creating environments that support rather than inhibit physical activity are critical to lifelong chronic disease prevention.

Our team focuses on supporting Kansas City residents in their goals for physical activity. We know that some communities do not have the same resources that other communities have and that this can impact residents’ health. We are trying to help increase the amount of health resources that are available in these communities. We hope that over time we can help reduce health disparities that exist.

Our projects span: measurement, behavioral epidemiology, health behavior change, and implementation science. View All Projects
